● How to Grind the Ink ●

  1. Add a small amount of water to the flat area of the inkstone (called the "oka").

  2. Hold the ink stick vertically or at a slight angle, and gently rub it in a "V" or circular motion.

  3. Once the ink thickens, drip some into the well area of the inkstone (called the "umi").

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create a concentrated ink base, then dilute with water as needed to adjust the consistency.
